How much time does it take to obtain a decision on the application on the permit?

Normally this takes 3 to 4 weeks.

If I get the HSM visa, can my partner and children come with me to the Netherlands?

Normally yes. An application for a residence permit can be submitted for your partner and children.

If I get the Highly Skilled Migrant permit, does this mean that I will also obtain the 30% ruling?

Obtaining the HSM permit does not automatically mean that you also qualify for the 30% ruling. Both are separate government decisions with their own conditions. The 30% ruling is a tax benefit while the HSM permit is a matter of immigration law. Of course, as in most cases a HSM permit holder enjoys a higher salary and was hired from abroad, the 30% ruling requirements are frequently met and chances of success when applying for the 30% ruling are high. We would however have to check on an individual basis to be certain.

What are the differences between the two types of registrations at the municipality, the RNI and BSN?

For working in the Netherlands, you need to get an identification number so that for example the Dutch tax authorities know who you are. For residents, there is the BSN number or “Burgerservicenummer”. But for non-residents, you can also apply for an RNI number or “Registratie niet-ingezetenen”. What number you need depends on your situation. In general you can say that if you intend to stay in the Netherlands for less than 4 months, you should obtain an RNI number. But if you stay longer, you need a BSN number.
